Highlights from the Upcoming Changping Cycling Challenge

On April 6, 2023 the “Cycling Challenge Competition, 2023 Vuelta a España - Beijing Changping\"held a press conference in the Future Science City where they announcedthe opening of registration and released information on routes , schedule arrangements, and registration methods.

The event was attended by several guests including Bai Lin, Deputy District Mayor of Changping District People"s Government; Liang Shiqiang, President of Changping District People"s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries; Wang Yang, Director of Foreign Affairs Office of Changping District People"s Government; Zhang Hongji, Director of Changping District Meteorological Bureau; Cui Hongmei, Deputy Director of Changping District Sports Bureau; Hu Nan, Deputy Director of Changping District Culture and Tourism Bureau; Li Xinman, Chief Representative of A.S.O. China; Essar Gabriel, Executive Vice President and Co-Founder of Druid Sports China, as well as Zhang Hong, CEO of Druid Sports China.

Wang Yang, Director of Foreign Affairs Office of Changping District People"s Government, highlighted the fact that Changping is an area with a strong international atmosphere, hosting several international events every year. He mentioned the district’s deep friendship with Torrejón, a Spanish sister city in the Madrid region, and that it has maintained close cooperation in football culture for many years. He added that the successful holding of this event would further promote win-win cooperation between Changping and Spain in sports, culture, tourism, and other fields; and deepen the friendship between the two sides, especially during the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Spain.

According to Cui Hongmei, Deputy Director of Changping District Sports Bureau, the district"s ability to host world-class events is a testament to its strength. The sports industry in the area is at the forefront of development in terms of environment, infrastructure, and mass participation, with nearly 100 mass sports events held annually. The Cycling Challenge Competition, 2023 Vuelta a España in Changping holds great significance, as it helps build the district"s reputation as an international hub for sports and consumption; promotes the integration of sports, culture, tourism, and business development, and enhances its international influence. The successful hosting of the race will also boost national fitness, drive sports and tourism economies, and bring more attention to Changping.

Hu Nan, Deputy Director of Changping District Culture and Tourism Bureau, added that Changping is a historically rich area with a civilization history of 6,000 years. It is also the only intersection of the \"Three Cultural Belts\" in Beijing and a national demonstration zone for all-region tourism. With 15 A-level scenic spots, including the National 5A-level scenic spots of the Ming Tombs, Juyongguan Great Wall, Fun Capital Holiday Plaza, and the Grand Canal Source Site Park, Changping has plenty to offer the Cycling Challenge Competition, 2023 Vuelta a España participants, cycling enthusiasts, passionate spectators, and tourists. The district has unique star-rated hotels, resorts, and characteristic homestays with rural charm, and its various characteristic farmhouse banquets can satisfy any taste bud. Hu Nan invites everyone to fall in love with Changping and enjoy a wonderful cycling journey.

Finally, Zhang Hongji, Director of the Changping District Meteorological Bureau, discussed the favorable weather conditions in mid-June, when the Cycling Challenge Competition of the 2023 Vuelta a España will take place. Changping is known for its clear skies, overlapping mountains, lush greenery, and beautiful scenery during this time. Whether one is a participant or a traveler, they can easily appreciate the natural scenery and stunning meteorological landscapes, such as blue skies, white clouds, and sparkling stars. Additionally, the meteorological bureau will closely monitor weather changes, organize expert teams to conduct follow-up and refined forecasting, and provide high-standard and first-class meteorological service guarantees for the race.

The chief representative of A.S.O. (Amoury Sports Organisation) in China, Li Xinman, remarked that the Vuelta a España has developed its unique characteristics and sporting culture in its nearly century-long history. She expressed her delight in bringing the Vuelta a España to Changping District in Beijing and integrating it with the local natural and cultural environment. The objective is to showcase the essence of the race to professional cyclists and cycling enthusiasts and to open a new chapter in the Vuelta a España. Amoury Sports Organisation plans to invite star riders from the Giro d"Italia, Tour de France, and Vuelta a España to participate in the competition, adding more highlights to the race.

Javier Guillen, the director of the Vuelta a España,extended his wishes in a video at the press conference. He expressed his excitement that Beijing will host the Vuelta a España Challenge for the first time. He promised to create a special event and celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Spain.

The organizer of the event in China is Druid Sports China. Essar Gabriel, Vice President and co-founder of Druid Sports China,expressed his high hopes for the competition. He said he was delighted to be back in Beijing and to come to the beautiful and vibrant Changping District. He added that with the strong support of the China Cycling Association, the Changping District People"s Government, and Unipublic, they are bringing the Vuelta a España to Beijing Changping for the first time.The aim is to hold a wonderful and safe event and ignite the sports passion of cycling enthusiasts in Beijing and across the country.He also thanked Changping District for designing a track that combines historical landscapes and beautiful scenery. He hopes that every participant can enjoy the race and gain a unique experience.

Zhang Hong, the General Manager of Druid Sports China, shared the purpose and highlights of the competition. She said that based on the profound accumulation of the \"Vuelta a España\" IP, the \"Cycling Challenge Competition, 2023 Vuelta a España - Beijing Changping\" aims to present a comprehensive race experience that combines professional competition with public interest. It will allow top domestic and foreign riders and domestic cycling enthusiasts to deeply experience the atmosphere and charm of cycling. She hopes to create another golden IP of cycling events.

After the speeches, the registration ceremony for the press conference was launched. Leaders of the event organizers, contractors, and supporting units jointly lit up the main logo of the \"Cycling Challenge Competition, 2023 Vuelta a España - Beijing Changping\" by cycling. This announcement officially declared that the event has been officially opened in China. The first \"Cycling Challenge Competition, 2023 Vuelta a España - Beijing Changping\" has the theme of \"Encounter by Cycling,\" conveying the attitude of challenging oneself,courageously breaking through limits, relaxing physically and mentally in outdoor nature, encountering green sustainability, and meeting a better self and a better tomorrow through cycling.

Highlights of the \"Cycling Challenge Competition

2023 Vuelta a España - Beijing Changping\"

The competition will beheld on June 17-18, 2023 and feature four events with unique characteristics over two days, including Circuit Race, Team Time Trial, Family Fun Ride and Road Race,to meet the needs of different people. The competition will have two categories, the \"Legendary Group\" and the \"Amateur Group,\"and will be timed and scored in accordance with the China Cycling Association"s competition rules. Participants who complete the race will receive event medals.

The Circuit Race, Team Time Trial, and Family Fun Ride taking place on June 17thare competitions for the \"amateur group\" and are open for public registration.The Circuit Race and Team Time Trial both feature a 5 km course with a total of five laps, covering a distance of 26.2 km. The Family Fun Ride features a 5 km course that riders have to complete within one hour. The starting point and finish line are located at the Future Science City Sports Center in Changping District. The race route goes along Future Science City East Road, Yingcai North Second Street, Future Science City Road, and Future Science City Avenue. The cycling route in Future Science City is comprised of spacious two-way lanes, passing through two iconic bridges, providing participants with a refreshing urban landscape experience.

The Road Race scheduled on June 18thcovers a total distance of 102.5 kilometers, including an honor ride of 7 kilometers and a competitive ride of 95.5 kilometers.The track difficulty level is intermediate, and both the starting and finishing points are at the Future Science City Sports Center. The route passes through the Thirteen Ming Tombs Reservoir in Changping District, offering participants a once-a-year opportunity to ride on the reservoir dam and pass through the world cultural heritage site and national 5A-level tourist attraction, the \"Ming Tombs.\" Notably, the Wangbai Road stage is open to cyclists for the first time, allowing them to enjoy the stunning valley scenery. The route has also added the Wenyu River Greenway and tree-lined roads for a relaxing ride before the final sprint. The overall route integrates ancient and modern humanistic and natural landscapes, significantly enhancing the cycling experience.

With the strong support of the Changping District Government in Beijing, the “Cycling Challenge Competition, 2023 Vuelta a España - Beijing Changping\" will be held on a fully enclosed race track to ensure the safety of participants, spectators, and tourists. The competition will also offer comprehensive event services and protection, including on-site bicycle inspection, repair, and washing areas for athletes to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.Additionally, a children"s balance bike area will be set up to provide a fun and educational way for kids to participate and experience the joy of cycling.During the event, performances will be provided to offer exciting entertainment for participants and visitors, making for a rich weekend experience.
